Employee Spotlight: Sherry Mireles

Behind the scenes of every healthcare institution, there are exceptional leaders who guide the path toward excellence. Today, we turn the spotlight on our remarkable hospital lab director, an individual whose unwavering commitment to quality and innovation has transformed our lab into a beacon of cutting-edge diagnostics and compassionate patient care.

Sherry Mireles began her career at Coon Memorial Hospital in October 2019, joining Dallam Hartley Counties Hospital District with more than 10 years of experience as a medical laboratory technician. Her experience and leadership skills helped guide the laboratory team through the COVID-19 pandemic, which provided extra challenges with an unprecedented increase in testing at the CMH laboratory. Sherry is a visionary leader who embraces innovation and fosters a culture of continuous improvement.

“Having a job that allows me to make a positive impact on others’ lives and society as a whole is highly rewarding,” Sherry said. “Whether it’s through providing a valuable service, helping others, or contributing to a meaningful cause, the sense of making a difference is a motivating factor. I find motivation in knowing that the test results we generate contribute directly to the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of a patient’s health.”

Exceptional leaders like Sherry make a lasting impact on the lives of patients and the advancement of medical science. Through her visionary leadership, dedication to excellence, and unwavering compassion, Sherry has transformed our lab into a center of innovation and excellence. We are privileged to have her at the wheel, guiding us toward a future where exceptional diagnostics and compassionate care intertwine seamlessly.

“Many people are unaware of the extensive work that goes on behind the scenes in a clinical laboratory,” she said. “While patients may only see the phlebotomist drawing blood or receive test results, there is a complex process involving sample handling, preparation, analysis, quality control, and result interpretation conducted by laboratory professionals.”

With an adventurous, caring, and family-focused heart, Sherry spends her time away from work socializing and connecting with friends and family. She also enjoys traveling to new places to explore, experience new cultures and broaden her horizons.

In addition to offering inpatient lab services, DHCHD also offers outpatient lab services. You can schedule lab tests 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The lab is located right inside of the ER/Admissions door off of the corner of East 16th Street and Denver Ave at Coon Memorial Hospital. For questions regarding the lab or to speak with Sherry, please call 806.244.9309.
