DALHART, TEXAS – Dallam Hartley Counties Hospital District presented a check for $10,769.78 today to the Dalhart Education Foundation to kickstart a memorial scholarship fund in honor of Preston Ralston.
The funds were raised by DHCHD during a breakfast burrito fundraiser on April 5. The Dalhart community showed their support by purchasing nearly 1,500 burritos. 100 percent of the funds raised went toward the fund, as the supplies needed to make the burritos were donated by Forefront Healthcare, DHCHD and Dust Bowl Bar & Grill.

“We were truly humbled by the overwhelming support from the community,” said Kacey Schniederjan, DHCHD CEO. “We wanted to show our support for a long-time employee during this difficult time for her family. Thank you to everyone who participated and volunteered their time. Thank you to Forefront for supplying most of the food and supplies. We are thankful to be part of such a generous community.”
Volunteers from DHCHD, Forefront and Apollo MedFlight helped prepare the burritos, and DHCHD staff and CNA nursing students from Dalhart High School served the burritos through a drive-through pick up line. Additional hospital district volunteers made deliveries to all of the school campuses in Dalhart for staff and students who placed pre-orders.
Additional details regarding the scholarship will be released by the family at a future date, but the funds will be held in the Dalhart Education Foundation housed at Wellington State Bank.
“We are truly grateful for the love and support shown by our community,” said Sarah and Wes Ralston, parents of Preston. “We are humbled by the fact that Preston’s memory will continue due to the generosity of everyone involved.”
Forefront is contracted to provide culinary services, laundry and linen cleaning, and facility maintenance management for DHCHD. Forefront has a corporate office in Austin, Texas.
