DALHART, TEXAS – The Pearl Ingram Estate gave an unrestricted bequest of $150,000 to Dallam Hartley Counties Hospital District (DHCHD) in early 2022. DHCHD moved the gift to the Dallam Hartley Counties Healthcare Foundation, which is the fundraising entity for DHCHD. At the July meeting for the foundation, the board of directors voted to temporarily designate the $150,000 toward the building of the new nursing home.

Stella and Barry Walker, executors of the estate, are thrilled the donation is going toward the new nursing home. Don Ingram, son of Pearl, has been a resident of the Coon Memorial Nursing Home for several years. When Stella asked Don if he would like to be in the photo for the Dalhart Texan, he communicated his approval with a big smile.
“Don’s smile is always on his face, he is an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, and he is always happy to visit with staff, friends, and volunteers,” Heather Schriber, Coon Memorial Nursing Home director, said. “We hope Don will be the first resident rolled into the new nursing home in 2024.”
Coon Memorial Nursing Home is more than 70 years old. The DHCHD board of directors, administration and architects have plans drawn for a new 90-bed facility with private rooms. The new facility will sit west of Frank Phillips College facing Rita Blanca Lake.
DHCH Foundation Consultant Joyce Bezner said, “We understand from the DHCHD board that a low interest, long-term loan will be acquired for the building of the nursing home. Many families have had relatives and friends live in Coon Memorial Nursing Home and have fond memories of their experience. I believe there are donors who will want to financially support the new nursing home, as it will serve the community for many years to come.”
